In China

After two long flights we have arrived safely in Guangzhou, China.  The first leg of our flight was from LAX to Beijing (12 hours).  Then we transferred to a domestic flight from Beijing to Guangzhou (another 3 hours).

Once we arrived in Guangzhou, our guide arranged by Great Wall Adoption Agency, Kelly picked us up.  Because it was around lunch time, we decided to stop by a supermarket so that we can get some snacks and water.  Kelly has been a guide for adoptions for over 6 years so it was comforting to know that she has a lot of experience with babies.  She was familiar with the Dongguan Orphanage, where Lauren is currently residing.  She tried to look for the formula that she knows the Dongguan Orphanage uses, but it was not at that store.  According to Kelly, Dongguan is a good orphanage, however since it is located in an industrial city, their problem is that they often have a hard time hiring nannies.  This sometimes means that there is not enough nannies for the babies.

From there we went to the hotel.  We are staying at the China Hotel, which is a Marriott Hotel.  We have unpacked and we were so exhausted from our travels that we went straight to bed.  It is now 1:00 am and of course we are both awake!  The hotel put in a pack n play crib in the room and a little welcome congratulations basket.

Tomorrow is Sunday and is a free day.  Dad already got a map and has plans to explore.  Guangzhou is a modern city so we are counting on good public transportation.  Hope we don't get lost!
